Review – Black Chicken Remedies Love Your Face Serum
I was reading Caroline Hiron’s blog on Dehydration Week whereby she recommended some products to help with skin dehydration problems. One of the products which was highly recommended by her is the Black Chicken Remedies Love Your Face Serum. Coincidentally BorderFree was offering free shipping from Australian online shops so I grabbed the chance and bought this product from Adore Beauty (an Australian online retailer of beauty products).
Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot Kernel oil*), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba oil*), Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose oil*), Argania Spinosa (Argan oil cosmetic*), (Vit E 50 – Mixed Tocopherols from Non-GMO soy sources), Citrus Aurantium (Neroli essential oil), Rosa Canina (Rosehip oil), Santalum Spicatum (Sandalwood essential oil), Cymbopogon Martinii (Palmarosa essential oil), Rosa Centifolia (Rose Maroc essential oil), Cananga odorata (Ylang Ylang essential oil)
How does the Black Chicken Remedies Love Your Face Serum fare?
Black Chicken Remedies is an Australian brand that creates skincare and body care products that are 100% natural, contain certified organic ingredients and are free of chemicals, fillers, perfumes and dyes. Their Love Your Face Serum is actually an oil-based serum (instead of the usual water-based) formulated with 11 different types of nourishing oils that claims to feed vital nutrients to hydrate, visibly smooth, and intensively moisture boost the skin on your face.
I treat this product as a facial oil instead of a serum. Therefore I would usually mix 2 to 3 drops of the oil into my face cream for my daytime routine. So did it help my dehydrated skin become more hydrated? Well, it’s both a Yes and a No. You see, because my skin is prone to dehydration since I’m constantly in air-conditioned rooms, I would normally use a water-based hyaluronic acid serum both day and night. Therefore I would not solely credit this product with adding moisture back to my skin. However, I find that this product helps in strengthening my moisture barrier due to the restoration nature of the oils inside it. A strong moisture barrier acts as a waterproof barrier that effectively keeps water in the skin preventing trans epidermal water loss (TEWL) and keeps out bacteria, irritants, allergens, and other microorganisms from permeating it. So while this product does not help my dehydrated skin by adding moisture but it helps to lock the moisture from my hyaluronic acid serums in my skin. With regular use, I find that it keeps my skin sufficiently hydrated and balanced, my T-zone do not get as oily at the end of the day and my makeup actually lasts pretty much throughout the day. Due to the essential oils in the product, it smells wonderful and is a pleasure to use in the mornings while I’m still bleary eyed and trying to rush for work. Overall I’m happy with the performance of this product and I would recommend it to people who want to try “green beauty” which works and has a reasonable price.
