REN’s ClearCalm 3 Clarifying Clay Cleanser was another product I bought solely due to the reason that Caroline Hirons recommended it (I know.. I’m easily influenced by her!). At that time, I wasn’t even looking for a new cleanser since I already have so many in my stash. I was actually buying other products and since I was still some amount away from free tracked shipping for my order, I added this product to my cart (afterall cleansers are a very necessary consumable which rarely gives me problems). I’ve been rotating this product with my other cleansers for a few months but had never gotten around to reviewing it. Since it’s officially summer time in the northern hemisphere part of the world, I thought that I would talk about this clay cleanser which helps to reduce the oiliness of the skin due to the heat and humidity.
As usual, let’s check out the ingredients below.
Aqua (Water), Kaolin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Cetearyl Glucoside, Glycerin, Benzyl Alcohol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Salix Nigra (Willow) Bark Extract, Zinc Gluconate, Bisabolol, Oryzanol, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Linalool, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Leptospermum Scoparium Oil, Tocopherol, Dehydroacetic Acid, Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Flower Oil, Citral, Xanthan Gum, Lactic Acid, Citronellol, Farnesol, Limonene, Crataegus Oxyacantha Stem Extract, Glucose
How does the REN ClearCalm 3 Clarifying Clay Cleanser fare?
REN’s ClearCalm 3 Clarifying Clay Cleanser claims to be a purifying antibacterial cleanser formulated to combat the appearance of breakouts and blemishes leaving skin visibly clearer and calmer. It contains French Kaolin Clay to absorb excess sebum and detoxifies impurities while Zinc Gluconate reduces sebum production. Salicilin, from Willow Bark, provides mild exfoliation to unclog blocked pores while anti-bacterial and anti-microbial actives purify the skin. An Essential Oil Complex of Chamomile, Lavender and Sage reduces and calms inflammation and is antibacterial. Flavonoids from Mayblossom Extract tone skin and help reduce the appearance of large pores.
As I’ve mentioned above, I’ve been using this product for a few months and the reason why I didn’t have a profound need to review this product was because it was just OK for me. I don’t really love it nor do I hate it. Despite being a clay cleanser, it is non-stripping and in fact, my skin surprisingly felt a bit more moisturised after cleansing. This product also leaves just a bit of film after I’ve cleansed. However I didn’t notice any breakouts despite the slight film. I think that even drier skins might like this product and could possibly use it daily during summer time. I use this product as my second cleanse in the evenings and as my first cleanse in the morning. If you are struggling with oilier skin due to the heat during summer time but do not want to use cleansers that are too harsh, I believe that this product might just be right for you.
