Hada Labo is a well-known Japanese beauty brand that’s widely available in drugstores in Singapore. It launched in 2004 in Japan and was exceptionally well-received within a short period of time. They soon expanded to the overseas market and is now very commonly found in Asia. Their most famous product is the iconic Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Lotion and it has since sold over 30 million bottles in Japan alone.

In 2015, I learnt that Hada Labo had launched a “premium” version of their Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Lotion while watching the popular Taiwanese beauty show “Women” or “女人我最大”. It was said to be the most hydrating out of all their lotions and contains 5 types (the original version has 4!) of Hyaluronic Acid, as well as alage-derived Sacran, to deeply hydrate skin from the surface to the inner skin layers for significantly soft, smooth and supple skin. At that time however, I didn’t really take much notice of it since it was marketed for dry to very dry skins. I actually had the notion that it would be very sticky and uncomfortable in the warm and humid climate in Singapore. The thing is, I had used the original version of the Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Lotion before and wasn’t too impressed by it. This prior experience also clouded my perception of this product. Therefore it wasn’t until about 2 months ago while Watsons (a drugstore in Singapore) was having its annual mega sale that I finally took a chance on this product (It had a pretty great 25% discount!). So, did I like it? Read on!

Ingredients

WATER, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, GLYCERIN, PPG-10 METHYL GLUCOSE ETHER, HYDROXYETHYL UREA, DIGLYCERIN, TRIETHYL CITRATE, PEG-32, GLYCOSYL TREHALOSE, CARBOMER, SORBITOL, PHENOXYETHANOL, PEG-75, DIETHOXYETHYL SUCCINATE, HYDROGENATED STARCH HYDROLYSATE, DISODIUM SUCCINATE, METHYLPARABEN, SODIUM HYALURONATE, POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE, DISODIUM EDTA, POLYQUATERNIUM-51, SUCCINIC ACID, SODIUM ACETYLATED HYALURONATE, HYDROLYZED HYALURONIC ACID, APHANOTHECE SACRUM EXOPOLYSACCHARIDES, AMMONIUM ACRYLATES COPOLYMER, HYDROXYPROPYLTRIMONIUM HYALURONATE, SODIUM HYALURONATE CROSSPOLYMER, PENTYLENE GLYCOL

I’ve just highlighted the 5 types of hyaluronic acid as well as the algae-derived extract in the ingredients list above.

How did the Hada Labo Gokujyun Premium Hyaluronic Acid Lotion fare?

The Hada Labo Gokujyun Premium Hyaluronic Acid Lotion claims to provide mask-like hydration for all day zero-dryness. Formulated with 5 types of hyaluronic acid with different molecular weights, it gently wraps skin with moisture to provide intense hydration all day long.

The main reason why there are more benefits to having a variety of molecular weights of hyaluronic acid is because they are able to penetrate different depths of the skin.

  • High-molecular weight hyaluronic acid offers surface hydration and comfort while helping to prevent moisture loss,
  • Mid-molecular weight hyaluronic acid offers short-term comfort and hydration,
  • Low-molecular weight hyaluronic acid provides lasting comfort and hydration for the skin with continued use.

This lotion even contains a hyaluronic acid crosspolymer that helps smaller-sized hyaluronic acid to remain effective topically even in the presence of high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid that ordinarily impairs absorption. The fact that such technology is present in a mass-tige drugstore product is pretty impressive to me. Ok, enough about its ingredients, let’s go on to my review of how it works for my skin!

My feelings about this product can be summarised in just 3 words “I Love It!”. My god! I’m just kicking myself for not using this product earlier! In fact, after the first week of using it, I rushed back to Watsons and bought another bottle to stock up during the sale. It’s so insanely hydrating, you guys! It’s also totally non-sticky and sinks in relatively fast leaving behind beautifully hydrated plump skin that looks brighter due to the influx of moisture. My main beef with the original version of their Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Lotion was that it somehow leaves behind a slightly tacky finish even after it absorbs (although you can’t actually feel it if you apply moisturiser over it). Additionally I’ve just never felt that it was that hydrating, at least not in the way that this premium version is. The Hada Labo Gokujyun Premium Hyaluronic Acid Lotion will definitely push your hydrating game to the next level! It amplifies the hydrating powers of my serum and moisturiser like a hydration turbo-boost to my whole skincare routine. I know I’m gushing but I just love it!

I’m so glad that I took a chance on this product and it honestly just blew my mind. The best thing about this product is its affordable price for a big bottle of 170 ml. I can use it liberally (although I usually do use my products liberally regardless..) and my wallet wouldn’t feel the pinch of re-stocking this product. For those of you with dry or dehydrated skins, this product will be a game-changer! Go get yours now!

Where can you find it?

I bought this product while I was browsing Watsons stores. The original price is S$24.90 and the discounted price was S$18.67.

You can purchase it from the Watsons Online store here.
