First Care Love!

Sulwhasoo’s First Care Serum was the first product in Sulwhasoo’s whole range of product that I’d used some years ago. For those who have been reading my blog for some time, you would know that I’d faithfully used the whole range of Sulwhasoo skincare products a few years back until I got “seduced” by the other new and fancy skincare products. In fact, I loved and trusted Sulwhasoo’s products so much that I even continued using them during my pregnancy in 2014. I would credit the relatively stable condition of my skin during my pregnancy partially to these products. For reference, I used their Gentle Cleansing Oil, Gentle Cleansing Foam, First Care Serum, Essential Balancing Water and Essential Firming Cream. The whole range of products kept my skin clear, hydrated and soft throughout my pregnancy. Now I know that I might be one of those lucky ones who didn’t have to deal with pregnancy hormones making my skin extra oily or having pregnancy-related melasma. However, most pregnant women also did not have to deal with liver failure due to pregnancy hormones either, but that’s another story for another day.

*Disclaimer: This is not to say that I endorse their products to be completely safe for everybody during their pregnancy. It worked for me and my doctor was ok with the ingredients in the products that I gave him to look through. As always, please check with your doctor if you are unsure.*

How does the Sulwhasoo First Care Activating Serum EX fare?

Back in Oct 2017, I went on a holiday with my family to Australia. While passing by the Shillia Duty Free Shops in Changi Airport, I saw that there was a promotion consisting of a duo pack of the Sulwhasoo First Care serum and I bought it without thinking too much since I’d used it before and I was confident that it is a good product.

Reintroducing the Sulwhasoo First Care serum into my skincare routine is akin to reuniting with an old friend that you’ve lost touch with for some time. It’s comfortable, easy and relaxing and that’s just the way I feel about this product. I’ve been using it in my morning routine to add a bit of oomph because I’ve cut out all actives in my morning skincare. I’ve started using some powerful actives in my night time routine so I’ve not been using any actives in the daytime to avoid irritating my skin too much. The main effect that I’ve noticed from adding the Sulwhasoo First Care serum into my routine is that it keeps my skin in a stable state. As per my previous post, my skin has been acting up due to my work stress, hormonal issues and also the stress of having one of my family member being very ill. It’s been a tough period for me and I guess all these accumulation of stress really took a toll on my skin. It was breaking out with tiny pimples, a few cystic acne that leaves marks as well as flaking skin around my nose and jawline. Therefore, what the Sulwhasoo First Care serum does for me is to basically tell my skin to stop freaking out and remain in equilibrium. One week after introducing this serum, the small breakouts have mostly stopped and the cystic acne started healing. I was actually pretty surprised that it took such a short time to show effects.

In recent years, I found that the concept of skin health has really taken off. Rather than focusing on treating one problem at a time (such as acne or hyper-pigmentation etc.), I’ve found that newer products focused more on improving the health of the skin itself and indirectly allow the skin to repair itself, whether it be a compromised skin barrier or wrinkles or acne. To me, the Sulwhasoo First Care serum is such a product. If you don’t have much problems with your skin in the first place, you might not be able to see any effects when you use it. However, for people who are facing some problems with their skin, using the First Care serum might help in improving the overall skin health, helping it to heal itself. The whole myriad of herbal extracts in this product will assist in improving skin’s immunity and allow it to better resist environmental assaults on the skin. I wouldn’t say that everybody will discover fantastic results with this product but for those people with “confused” skin or “unbalanced” skin, this product might just be the thing you need!

Where can you find it?

Well, as I’ve stated above, I bought this product from Changi Airport Duty Free. The promo pack costs S$144.80 for 2 bottles of 60ml sized product.

Sulwhasoo is also available at Tangs, Takashimaya, Robinsons The Heerens as well as its standalone boutiques at ION Orchard, Westgate and Capitol Building.

You can also purchase it from Zalora SG. It retails at S$115 (60ml sized).
